NFL player charged with DWI

Minnesotans who are NFL fans might be interested in learning that P.J. Williams, a cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, was arrested on Jan. 23 on suspicions of driving while intoxicated. Williams was reportedly arrested for drunk driving and careless driving at 1:10 a.m.

According to reports, Williams posted bond three hours after he was taken into custody. In 2014, when Williams was a starting cornerback for Florida State University, he reportedly drove into the pathway of another vehicle, resulting in an accident that totaled both vehicles. Williams allegedly fled the scene after the collision. According to records, his driver’s license was under suspension at the time. Despite the circumstances, Williams was only issued two traffic tickets.

In 2015 in Tallahassee, Fla., Williams was taken into custody on suspicions that he was driving under the influence. He reportedly told the officers that he had a few drinks. However, authorities there later dropped the charges against him. Williams was a third-round draft pick for the Saints in 2015. He just finished his rookie contract and is scheduled to become a free agent in March.

For most people, drunk driving charges can result in serious penalties if they are convicted as charged. Those who are facing drunk driving charges might benefit from seeking the help of an experienced DWI defense lawyer. An attorney might understand how the roadside sobriety tests are supposed to be administered. Legal counsel might also understand issues that can occur with breathalyzer analyses. If a lawyer spots any problems with the tests or the way in which the stop, search and seizure were conducted, he or she may file evidentiary motions to challenge the evidence against the client.
